| Description: | The article deals with the problem of students-philologists’ secondary linguistic personality development in the process of foreign language acquisition. The attention is focused on modern approaches to the nature of linguistic personality, its structure, content and specificity of manifestation in communication. The author claims that through the language an individual becomes a part of social consciousness and only due to this fact his/her individual consciousness is developed. Since the language is a medium of collective consciousness it is possible to speak of a personality as such, which has a language capacity, is manifested in speech behavior, and is a part of social consciousness. The concept “linguistic personality” was introduced into scientific circulation by Yu. Karaulov. The scholar defines it as a combination of capacities and characteristics that stipulate a person’s texts production. The model proposed by Yu. Karaulov comprises semantic, cognitive and pragmatic levels. It is hypothesized that in different situational sets “linguistic personality” has different spheres of manifestation and thus may have several images, such as a speech personality, a communicative personality and a cognitive personality |
